| Title | Summer home on Alki, Seattle, ca. 1905 |
| Photographer | Webster & Stevens |
| Date | ca. 1905 |
| Caption | By the early 1900s, Alki had grown from a out-of-the-way campground to a full-fledged summer resort. Nestled along the beach were dozens of summer cottages, many with wistful names such as "Kill Time" and "La Siesta."
This photo shows a sizable structure, similar to The Stockade, which was a popular hotel at Alki. The vacationers would come by ferry to enjoy the pleasures of hiking, boating, clam digging, and (as we see in this photo) reading and relaxing. |
