Summer home on Alki, Seattle, ca. 1905
TitleSummer home on Alki, Seattle, ca. 1905
PhotographerWebster & Stevens
Dateca. 1905
CaptionBy the early 1900s, Alki had grown from a out-of-the-way campground to a full-fledged summer resort. Nestled along the beach were dozens of summer cottages, many with wistful names such as "Kill Time" and "La Siesta."

This photo shows a sizable structure, similar to The Stockade, which was a popular hotel at Alki. The vacationers would come by ferry to enjoy the pleasures of hiking, boating, clam digging, and (as we see in this photo) reading and relaxing.
NotesHandwritten on sleeve: Summer home, Alki Point.
