TitleStarting gate at Longacres Park, Renton, ca. 1985
PhotographerMeglemre, Michael
Dateca. 1985
CaptionLongacres Park racetrack was located in the Green River Valley near Renton, Washington. For many years, the river flooded regularly, damaging homes and farms. Curiously, the periodic flooding produced a soil that was excellent for horse racing tracks. The thoroughbreds that raced at Longacres set numerous speed records because the track itself gave them an advantage. This photo, taken in the 1980s, shows the horses leaving the starting gate.
