| Caption | Born in New York City in 1860, William Pigott came to Seattle in 1895. In 1901 he started his own company, Railway and Steel Supply Co. He decided he wanted to try producing steel in Seattle, so in 1903 founded Seattle Steel Co., which became known as Pacific Coast Steel Co. in 1913. Seeing a need for logging wagons and cars, he founded Seattle Car and Foundry. The company became Pacific Car and Foundry in 1917 after a merger with a Portland company. |
