Ford Motor plant, Seattle, 1941
TitleFord Motor plant, Seattle, 1941
PhotographerUnknown
Date1941
CaptionIn January 1932, Ford moved production from its Lake Union plant to this greatly expanded Seattle assembly plant on a 32-acre site at 4735 East Marginal Way along the Duwamish River. The new plant's 2, 000 workers saw their first Ford Model As roll off the new line in May 1932. The depression took its toll and the new plant turned out only 250 cars in its first month and only 2, 000 cars by November 1932 when the facility was forced to close. When this picture was made, the building was used as a sales and service facility; in 1942 it was sold to the federal government.
