| Photographer | Unknown |
| Date | ca. 1920 |
| Caption | Since the later part of the 19th century, Seattle has been a transshipment point for goods traveling between the United States and other Pacific Ocean ports. At the docks, longshoremen transferred the cargo between ships and the railroad. In the 1920s, the men did most of this work by hand; by the 1990s, many dockworkers had been replaced by machinery. |
