TitleBoy picking berries in Salmon Bay Park, Seattle, ca. 1910
PhotographerWebster & Stevens
Dateca. 1910
CaptionIn the 1890s, residents of the young community of Ballard began clearing brush and trees from a tract of land surrounded by streets named "Sloop", "Canoe" and "Brig" to create the first dedicated park in the area. After annexation into Seattle in 1907, it was called Salmon Bay Park, after the name of the real estate addition. The Park Board correctly predicted that the importance of the park would increase as this neighborhood became more thickly settled.
NotesHandwritten on sleeve: Salmon Bay Park.
