| Caption | Kirkland, Washington's 1946 Water Carnival included swimming and diving contests, boat races and many other events. Swimming pig races were particularly popular in the early years of the carnival.
In this August 1946 photo, the winning pig, named Rose of Normandie, poses with a group of smiling bathing beauties. The women hold signs painted with the various competing pigs' names. The Water Carnival was part of Kirkland's Summer Festival. |
