New streets in the Denny Hill Regrade, Seattle, July 30, 1935
TitleNew streets in the Denny Hill Regrade, Seattle, July 30, 1935
PhotographerWebster & Stevens
Date1935
CaptionDuring the second Denny Hill regrading project, street paving, sewers, water mains, sidewalks, and other improvements were done under a single contract. This meant that rebuilding the city streets could proceed in a coordinated manner. However, the Depression hit Seattle during the 1930s, and rebuilding took a long time.

In this photo, taken around 1935, the newly-extended Sixth, Seventh, and Eighth Avenues, sidewalks, and alleys run across the regraded land where Denny Hill used to be. Queen Anne Hill is in the background, to the right. The photo was taken from the Textile Tower.
NotesSigns in image: Northwest Auto Radio Co. Fifth Ave Court. The Famous Lovera Cigar - Today's Smoke Only 5 cents. Garden Square. Goodrich [Silvertown?] Stores - Tires, Batteries. Vance Hotel. Western Auto Supply Co. Good Year.

Handwritten on sleeve: Textile Tower (Views From) 7/30/35.
