Lake Washington floating bridge tunnels, Seattle, 1945
TitleLake Washington floating bridge tunnels, Seattle, 1945
PhotographerWebster & Stevens
Date1945
CaptionWork crews on Seattle's first floating bridge project dug two parallel tunnels through the heavy blue clay of Seattle's Mount Baker Ridge. Earth slides slowed construction and crews had to work around the clock to complete the tunnels on time. When finished, each concrete-lined tunnel carried two lanes of one-way traffic.
