Contextual NotesConstruction of the Legislative Building took place almost entirely over the five year period from 1922 to 1927. The project began in late March, 1922. Structural work proceeded steadily until October, 1927. Finishing, interior, and landscaping work continued to some degree through early 1929, although the building was essentially complete by 1928. At the height of construction, there were over 300 workers on site.

The 20th regular legislative session convened in the partially-completed structure for several days in early March, 1927, mainly as a ceremonial gesture. The 21st regular legislative session, convening on January 14, 1929, was the first to use the building fully for its intended purpose.
