DescriptionKIL-01-18 (TL) - Late Roman fine ware dish rim. Fine-grained clay matrix with no visible inclusions. Fragmentary rim with thickened, flat top. Convex wall and tiny portion of foot surviving. Slipped on both sides. Badly preserved, flaking off exterior. Imitation of African Red Slip. Color of fresh fracture: 5YR 6/6 tp 5/4 (unevenly fired). Color of exterior: 5YR 5/8 to 4/6 (slip). Color of interior: 5YR 5/6 to 4/6 to 4/3 at places. Rim diameter (ext.): 26 cm. Found in North Churches area (transect 6). KIL-01-20 (TR) - Early-middle Roman fine ware dish or bowl rim. Very fine clay matrix with not visible inclusions. Fragmentary thickened rim, slightly flanged, flat on top, with one deep groove on interior and exterior; one deep groove also on upper part of body convex wall; slipped on both sides. Slip well-preserved, thickly applied. Very distinctive fabric and finish. Early to mid Roman. Color of fresh fracture: 2.5YR 6/8 to 5/8. Color of exterior: Fired almost grey on exterior at 2.5YR 4/6 to brownish grey. Color of interior: 2.5YR 5/8 to 4/8. Rim diameter (ext.): 15. Found near North Churches (transect 6). KIL-01-19 (BL) - Early-middle Roman fine ware dish or bowl rim. Very fine-grained with no visible inclusions. Fragmentary rim of dish/bowl, upright rim, slightly thickened with flat top. One fine groove on top of rim. Slipped on both sides; thickly and well-applied, fairly glossy. Color of fresh fracture: 7.5YR 5/4 to 5YR 4/4 at margins. Color of interior and exterior: 2.5YR 4/6 to 5YR 4/4 (slip). Rim diameter (ext.): 23. Found near North Churches (transect 6). KIL -01-21 (BR) - Early Roman fine ware bowl rim. Clay matrix, some white and dark inclusions, plus rounded voids; soft fabric. Fragmentary plain rim, slightly inturned of hemispherical bowl, slipped on both sides. Exterior slip thinly applied. Color of fresh fracture: 5YR 6/6. Color of exterior: ca. 2.5YR 6/8. Color of interior: 2.5YR 5/8 (slip). Rim diameter (int.): 12. Found near North Churches (transect 6).
