| Contextual Notes | The Chinese Moon Festival is only second in significance to the Chinese New Year celebration. The moon on this day is the fullest and largest to the eye. The festival corresponds to the harvest festivals of western cultures. The festival is also known as the Moon Cake Festival because a special kind of sweet cake is prepared in the shape of a moon and filled with sesame seeds, ground lotus seeds and duck eggs, served as a traditional Chung Chiu delicacy. One relief in China traces the Moon Festival to the 14th century. |
