NotesThis telegram was sent by Henry Suzzallo to U.S. Secretary of Labor William B. Wilson on January 29, 1918. Suzzallo, the chairman of the Washington State Board of Defense and a member of the Labor Industries Board, informs Wilson of the result of two days' negotiation with the "loggers and lumbermen of Oregon and Washington". He tells Wilson that all lumber operators have agreed to go to the "eight hour basic day", as had been suggested by Colonel Brice Disque, the commanding officer of the Spruce Production Division and founder of the Loyal Legion of Loggers and Lumbermen. Suzzallo praises Disque's leadership, saying "Colonel Disquie [sic] was a great aid in bringing this result about and the gathering broke up with full confidence in his leadership." Suzzallo also congratulates Wilson on the accomplishment.
