NotesHandwritten note filed with image: Summer of 1902 12 1/2 year old W.J. Doucett on white horse presented from old original by W.J. Doucett Aug. 14.66. The shingle mill is just to the right of the Naptha launch inboard engine shed for the first gas power boat of any kind on Lake Meridian gas engines were very unreliable then but this one was [the word 'not' is inserted here above the word 'was'] it was an N&S made in Seattle at Smith Cove among their first few in 1902 when they started business they are now non-existant [sic] I doubt if Lake Washington had more than two at time of any make this power boat was used to tow shingle bolts small logs cut to length and size dumped in lake in various places no one lived right on lake front only mill crew bunk houses and cook house not in picture but very close to lake edge I the 12 1/2 year on Dolly the white horse had the hunting and fishing all to my self the lake had big stock of land locked salmon cut off by Brighters saw mill dam at lake outlet stream from lake to dam then hatched and back to lake hence land locked they were so plentiful it was no effort to catch 18 if needed they weighed 1 to 5 lbs 10 to 20 ins caught with troll hand line with live native lake minnows 2 to 4 ins they were chubby silvery forked tail like tuna fish the lake had no other kind of fish the state has poisoned and stocked all the lakes hence these beautiful minnows are no more I as boy shot ducks geese and 2 swans with single barrel shot gun hand loaded brass shells black powder when shot it showed puff of blue smoke then the report later.
