CaptionThe Rainier District Powwow was first held in 1937 and continued through 1990. During those 53 years it attracted thousands of people to Seward Park for running and swimming races, beauty contests, pie eating contests, wrestling matches, boat races, and much more. Over the years just about every type of entertainment was presented. For several years they combined with Seattle Seafair activities and hosted the closing ceremonies, complete with fireworks displays put on by internationally known and locally owned Hitt Fireworks Co.
