| Title | Cavalry at Fort Lawton, May 18, 1918 |
| Photographer | Webster & Stevens |
| Date | 1918 |
| Caption | The United States Army established Fort Lawton in Seattle's Magnolia district in 1897 as part of the defense system for Puget Sound. During most of its active service, the fort served as an embarkation station where troops gathered before being sent to duty in Asia and the Pacific. In the 1990s, military personnel are still stationed at Fort Lawton, but most of the installation's 640 acres are part of Discovery Park. This photo shows a mounted cavalry group on the parade ground at Fort Lawton. The men had gathered for the photographer on a sunny day in May 1918, during World War I. |
