Gandy, president of the Seattle World's Fair, visits Martha Wright, star of Broadway's 'Sound of Music, ' in her dressing room to present a Governor's Proclamation naming her the official Broadway representative of the Seattle World's Fair, America's $100 million Space Age Exposition which opens April 21. The proclamation of the Hon. Albert D. Rosellini, Governor of the State of Washington, confers the title 'Seattle World's Fair Official Broadway Ambassadress' upon Miss Wright, who is a native of Seattle, and states that she will reign as such until the fair closes on October 21, 1962.
NotesGovernor's Proclamation reads: Whereas, the world's most compelling attraction of 1962 is the Seattle World's Fair, held in the city of Seattle, the state of Washington, from April 21 to October 21, 1962, and; Whereas, Martha Wright, one of Broadway's brightest stars and a native of Seattle, has demonstrated outstanding civic pride and responsibility on many occasions; Therefore, as Governor of the State of Washington, I do hereby appoint Martha Wright official hostess of the Seattle World's Fair, and as such I charge her to carry forth the spirit of the Seattle World's Fair to all whom she may encounter; And I do further confer on her the title of "Seattle World's Fair Official Broadway Ambassadress" to reign as such for the duration of the Fair. [Signed] Albert D. Rosellini, Governor, The State of Washington, By His Hand This 30th Day of December in the Year of Our Lord MCMLXI.
