An alphabet book depicting character traits such as amiable, bumptious, contented, doleful, etc. Each trait is illustrated and has an accompanying verse.
"G" stands for "generous." The illustration depicts a young boy in a sailor's outfit sharing a large pear with a parrot on a stand. A sign at the base of the stand says "Please do not feed any of the animals." The accompanying verse says "This is good-natured and generous G. A kind little fellow, you'll doubtless agree."
Contextual NotesG.E. Farrow was an English children's author who is best known for his books "The Mysterious Shin Shira" and "The Wallypug of Why."
John Hassall, the son of a naval officer, was born in Walmer, Kent, England in 1868. He studied art in Antwerp and Paris at the Academie Julien, 1894. He eventually became a full-time illustrator, designing posters and children's books (AskART website).
