A moveable picture book about the German military.
This illustration depicts two soldiers practicing jousting with blunted bayonets while other soldiers watch. Before the tab is pulled, the soldiers cross their bayonets and prepare to start jousting.
Contextual NotesLothar Meggendorfer was a German illustrator and writer known for his superb pop-up books. He was first published in 1862 in the Fliegende Blätter, an illustrated comic weekly. Every year, the Movable Book Society awards a pop-up book a prize named after Meggendorfer (Wikipedia).
