| Notes | Illustrated with hand colored woodcuts. Linen-backed leaves include 18 leaves of text and 18 leaves of colored engravings on facing pages with multiple engravings per leaf. Contains stories in prose and verse to amuse children and remind them to maintain high morals and good behavior. Most of the words are monosyllabic and all multisyllabic words have been broken down into their component syllables. This section is entitled "A chapter of accidents." The illustrations depict a boy being chased by dogs after he tries to rob a hen roost, a group of boys climbing a tree to escape a bear, a cow about to push a fisherman into the water, a bull chasing a plough-man, and riders falling to their deaths after their horses plunge over steep riverbanks and walls. |
