| Building Notes | The second Theta Xi Fraternity, a two-and-a-half-story brick-clad building, shows the influence of the Collegiate Gothic and Tudor Revival styles. The use of diamond patterned brickwork and curved gable roof are distinctive. The main entry also has interesting details of a cast stone surround, a decorative medallion with leaf patterns and possibly the fraternity's symbol, above the doorway. The three-way partnership of architects James H. Schack and David J. Myers with engineer Arrigo M. Young proved to be one of the most successful design firms in Seattle during the 1920s. Much of the firm's work was a continuation of each principal's earler fields of work, and had a well-established reputation for commercial buildings. Today the successor of this firm is known as TRA. |
