The smaller medal, 1662, relates to the ill feeling which existed between the English and Dutch soon after the Restoration. It arose from the anger felt by the English at the encroachment of the Dutch herring fishermen into English waters which led to frequent disputes; besides, the Dutch persistently refused to lower their flag to ships of Great Britain in the British Seas.
