| Contextual Notes | George Suckley was a physician and naturalist who, in the 1850s, documented the natural history of the Pacific Northwest. Suckley rejoined the Army and served as a staff surgeon for the Union at the outbreak of the Civil War. Suckley was a member of the Pacific Railroad Survey, led by Isaac Stevens, in 1853. |
