NotesThis view is looking at the Mount St. Helens crater with Spirit Lake in the foreground. Spirit Lake is the lake that Harry Truman lived on in his little lodge and he is the one who said that this mountain will not chase him away; he's going to stay there. He is now buried under that ash which is now on the Mount St. Helens side of the Lake. He is probably 300 feet deep under the ash. The lake itself is also covered with floating debris as we'll see in other pictures. Spirit Lake was totally wiped out. Everything in it was killed by the large amount of very high temperature ash.
