| Notes | Western Red Cedar dugout canoes were an integral part of Salish Indian culture. This example is typical of those built by John Cheshiahud of the Duwamish Tribe at his house on Portage Bay. This is a hunting type canoe for one or two paddlers and some gear, built ca. 1880. This canoe, found on the Tacoma Narrows in 1912, was donated by Lloyd Reed in 1983, after 70 years of use as a family boat. |
