Bridge over White River, Alvord's, ca. 1902
Bridge over White River, Alvord's, ca. 1902
TitleBridge over White River, Alvord's, ca. 1902
PhotographerUnknown
Dateca. 1902
CaptionStarting in the 1860s, a growing network of trails and roads connected the settlements in rural King County, Washington. By the early years of the 20th century, a number of steel bridges spanned the White River. In the 1910s, the White River was diverted towards the south as a flood control measure, and the Green River took over part of the old White River channel.

Notes with this photo identify this bridge as one built about 1902 across the White River at Alvord's, between Thomas and Kent. If the bridge were still there after the flood control work, it would span the Green River.
NotesCaption on mount: Bridge at Alvords. White River.

Typed on verso: Bridge at Alvord's on the White River, 1902. This bridge was erected about 1902 when Julius Frederick Mess was County Commissioner. It spanned the White River between Thomas and Kent.
