PhotographerStaff Photographer
Seattle Post-Intelligencer
Date1958
CaptionBorn in New York in 1897, Richard Fuller, Ph.D., came to Seattle in 1926 with his mother and sister. An avid art collector and patron, Fuller was the founding director of the Seattle Art Museum, which opened in 1933, serving in that position without a salary until his death in 1976. His "day job" was as professor of Geology at the University of Washington, beginning in 1940.

This June 1958 picture of Fuller and his sister, Eugenia, at an elegantly-set table outside the Seattle Art Museum (then in Volunteer Park, in the building now rededicated as the Seattle Asian Art Museum), was likely taken on the occasion of the museum's 25th anniversary.
NotesSeattle Art Museum also known as Seattle Museum, SAM, Art Institute of Seattle [note from the Library of Congress Authority File].

Handwritten on sleeve: Fuller, Richard, Dr. with sister, Mrs. Atwood, John C., Jr., Mrs.
