|Caption||Between 1913 and 1928, the population of Kirkland grew from approximately 1, 500 to 2, 500 people. By the mid-1920s, the town was connected to Seattle and other area cities by an expanding network of roads and ferries.|
This 1925 photo shows the west side of Lake Street, just north of Kirkland Avenue in downtown Kirkland. A large signpost stands in the middle of the intersection to direct automobile drivers north to Bothell (upper right), south to Tacoma (lower left) and west to the Lake Washington ferry landing (left). The Puget Sound Power & Light Building is just behind the sign.
