ContentBoccaccio was an Italian poet and scholar, best remembered as the author of the earthy tales in the Decameron. With Petrarch he laid the foundations for the humanism of the Renaissance period. Corbaccio or Labyrinth of Love (1354-55), is a bitterly prejudicial satire on a widow who had jilted him; it is at odds with his previous work written always in praise of women and love.
