Mesrop also spelled MESROB, (b. c. 360, Hatsik, Armenia [modern Mus, Tur.]--d. Feb. 17, 440; , monk, theologian, and linguist who, according to tradition, invented the Armenian script and helped establish Armenia's golden age of Christian literature.
