Obit/Notes--Des Moines Tribune March 8, 1922 (posted by Gloria Jean Dodds on Iowa GenWeb Project)
The funeral of Rev. Datus D. Proper was held at Harrisburg church on Wednesday afternoon. March 8, with interment beside his wife in the Vale cemetery.
Rev. Proper died quite suddenly at the home of Rev. J. S. Stump in New York City early Thursday morning, March 2. Proper had an attack of influenza, but was not considered seriously ill. Members of the family heard him moving about his room about 4:30 o'clock Thursday morning. When he was called for breakfast there was no response and he was found lying on his back across the bed with his arms folded across his chest, it being evidence that he had passed away soon after they had heard him.
Rev. Stump accompanied his remains here, arriving Thursday morning. Funeral services were held at one o'clock. Prayer by the pastor Rev. J. S. Coppoc. An historical sketch was read by Rev. Stump. Rev. G. P. Mitchell of Des Moines Baptist Missionary Secretary of Iowa gave a sketch of the work which the deceased had done in Iowa. Rev. A. A. DeLarme, pastor of the First Baptist church of Omaha, Neb. of which Rev Proper was a member, gave a splendid eulogy of the deceased as he had known him. Mr. Pillsbury of Omaha was also present. Buried at Vale Cemetery beside wife Amanda E. Dodds Proper.
