DescriptionA small brass gong with turned rim, held suspended in one hand by an orange cord (red tassels) and beaten with an antler mallet. The surface is flat without a boss.
The gong is used in folk music, festival Matsuri-Bayashi, Kabuki Geza (offstage music), and Kuromisu.

Atari-Gane mallet: ID #99: A wooden stick with an antler mallet head. The stick is made of a dark wood that curves and tapers where the wood pierces through the antler head. One mallet is used to play the Atari-Gane, a small brass gong with a tuned rim. The gong is suspended in one hand by a cord, and the inside rim of the gong is struck by the mallet.
