Caption in scrapbook: The relics of Crossroads
This wooden tower is shown as it appeared from Bikini Island in 1949. In 1946 it had been a signal station at the main docks on Bikini, but by 1949, its canvas roof was in tatters and its base was wrapped in sheet metal and ragged tarpaulins. The base made a handy room for temporary storage of film, canteens, knives and other impedimenta during trips ashore.
