This was part of a series entitled "Burt's One Syllable Histories" of which Josephine Pollard was but one of several authors. Pollard wrote the text using words of no more than one syllable. Words with more than one syllable are presented with the use of hyphens (i.e: George Wash-ing-ton).
This plate depicts "Winter at Valley Forge."
Contextual NotesMcLoughlin Brothers was active between 1858 and 1920 and at one time was seen as a pioneer in color printing technologies in children's books.
