Contextual NotesFriedrich Ad. Richter was an entrepreneur who purchased the idea of making children's stone building blocks from the Lilienthal brothers and opened a factory to begin producing the blocks in 1880. Richter began selling the blocks with a red squirrel as his trademark label. In 1895, he replaced the squirrel with an anchor. The sets became very popular and were used by both children and adults.
