Bound in publisher's yellow pictorial printed wrappers that have been trimmed with most of an inscription on the upper wrapper cut off; upper wrapper illustrations contained within an ornamental frame; upper register illustration shows Grandmamma Easy reading to children, with the banner "Grandmamma Easy's" running across the vignette; lower register illustration depicts girls varying ages playing with dolls and toys; publisher's advertisements for "Dean & Son's coloured six-penny books" listing several series on lower wrapper; lacks leaves 4 and 5.
A nursery rhyme very similar to Old Mother Hubbard except that the story involves a cat named Grip.
Part of the Grandmamma Easy's Pictorial Books series.
Leaf 7 depicts Old Mother Bantry reading in her garden while a young man steals her cat from her house in the background.
Leaf 8 depicts Old Mother Bantry holding her cat and promising to always feed him well declaring: "You shall live in my house, on the choicest of mouse, and have the full run of my pantry".
Contextual NotesThomas Dean's publishing company was located at Threadneedle Street from c. 1800-1855 and he published under the name Dean & Company from 1843-1846.
