Special Collections copy is binding variant as described by Davis; in publisher's light brown pictorial printed wrappers; title and imprint within a frame on upper wrapper, with a vignette of beehive in center; publisher's list of "Penny books printed and sold" on lower wrapper.

Page 30 describes a "Race Lists" salesman who sells lists of horses racing at Knavesmire. The illustration depicts a man carrying a basket covered with lists.
Page 31 depicts a the Great Comet of 1811 that was visible to the naked eye for 260 days. Printed around the image: The Comet, as seen at York, 1811.
Contextual NotesJames Kendrew was a printer and publisher who was famous for his chapbooks. He began printing in York in 1801 or 1803 and remained there until his death in 1841. (Source: Kendrew of York and his Chapbooks for Children: with a Checklist, by Roger Davis, 1988).
The comet that page 31 refers to is the Great Comet of 1811 which was visible to the naked eye for around 260 days.
