Contextual NotesThe ninety-five mile river mail route down Snake River runs from Lewiston to Johnson's Bar in Idaho and is known for being full of rapids. The tradition of the River Route began in 1926 when Captain Ed MacFarlane was awarded the first mail contract and it is still operational today.
